Eddy Alvarez is a short track speed skater from Miami, Florida who was born in 1990. Alvarez got into skating after two women told him he should try it after seeing him rolling through the streets of Miami on roller skates. He started inline skating and had a successful career that included forming a friendship with Olympic bronze medalist J.R. Celski. Alvarez missed the 2010 Games after having surgery on his knees. An accomplished baseball player, Alvarez made a comeback and is now healthy. The Florida native won bronze in the 500m at the World Cup Shanghai this year.
